Big Paddle Cleanup on the Great Ouse at Bedford
On Weds 8th June, Viking Kayak Club (Bedford) will be taking to our local waters to remove plastic pollution and junk, as part of British Canoeings’ Big Paddle Cleanup Campaign which aims to remove 1,000 sacks of plastic pollution from English waters.

The pandemic has brought into sharp focus just how important access to clean and healthy blue spaces are for our physical and mental wellbeing. Waterways run through the heart of almost every community, yet they are blighted by plastic pollution and glass bottles.

Viking Kayak Club has been an official “Keep Britain Tidy” Rivercare member since 2003 and has been actively involved in many litterpicks and cleanups since at least then. We appreciate a clean river to paddle in, and understand the damage that litter and pollution causes to wildlife and the environment on which we all depend, and that the problem just moves further downstream and out to sea if litter is not removed.
