If you’re looking to develop your safety and rescue skills in a sheltered water environment, this one-day practical course introduces the key skills needed for you to operate safely and deal with common emergencies. This course covers general theory and planning, as well as bank-based and boat-based rescues. This course is open to all paddlers, coaches and volunteers, in any craft or discipline.
This particular course at Viking Kayak Club is a boat-based course.
Thinking of becoming a Coach or Leader?, FSRT is a prerequisite to British Canoeing Coaching and Leadership awards
- Paddle Explore Award or 2 Star or be of equivalent ability due to the paddling environment and the boat control required to complete the course
- Be able to swim in normal paddling clothes.
The objective of this training course is to introduce simple and safe skills that can provide the tools to problem solve simple common paddling scenarios in flat/sheltered water regardless of the craft.
Candidates will learn:
- Skills which will enable them to ensure the safety of themselves and others
- Appropriate rescue skills, which can be used to help themselves and/or others in difficulty.
