River Nene Expedition: Oundle – Fotheringhay Castle – Oundle

Purely for Open Canadian Canoes

Saturday 29 August, all-day

Gorgeous paddle from Oundle to Fotheringhay Castle and back. Scenic and quiet stretch of the River Nene with a variety of wildlife and historical landmarks.

Picnic will be held at the site of the famous Fotheringhay Castle (1,100AD). Glorified by Catherine of Aragon, the Castle witnessed the birth of Richard III and execution of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Total Distance: approx. 9 miles

Portages: 4 in total (2 each way)

Difficulty: low hazards level, flat water, open for confident open Canadian paddlers (but beginners can join in tandem with an experienced canoe paddler)

Total time: 6-7 hours
