Viking Kayak Club

The club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in the clubhouse on Wednesday 28th November.
Please arrive by 7.15 pm for a prompt start at 7.30 pm.

Please can as many member attend as possible as per the constitution 2.1d: At the meeting one quarter of the voting members of the Club shall be present to form a quorum. In the event of a quorum not being present, no business can take place.


The following positions will be up for election:

  1. Chairman – Malcolm Craig was elected in 2016 for a two-year term
  2. Secretary – Richard Evans was elected in 2016 for a two-year term with Tony Perry covering for 2018.
  3. Youth Leader (under 18 on 1st October) During the AGM the committee will propose that this role is voted on during the awards night on 5th Dec which more youth members are likely to attend.

Nominations for officers of the Club should be with the Secretary in writing, duly proposed and seconded at least two weeks before the A.G.M. These nominations will be posted by the Club Secretary on the Club notice board as soon as possible. 
Nominations by email will be accepted at secretary@vikingkayak.co.uk along with separate email from the respective seconder.
The deadline for nominations shall be Wednesday 14th November.

If you are interested in how the club works or getting involved come along on a Wednesday evening for a chat with officers & committee members before the AGM. Either just turn up or ask secretary@vikingkayak.co.uk for guidance.

Officer Role Outlines

  • Support the efficient running of the club
  • Chairing regular committee and  annual  general  meetings
  • Helping others understand their roles and responsibilities
  • Communicating with various members within the club
  • Being actively involved in developing an action plan for the club
  • Representing the club at local and regional events
  • Ensuring an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the club to which the Club complies
  • Arranging handover or succession planning for the position


  • Being the first point of contact for club enquiries (except membership enquiries which are the responsibility of the Membership Secretary)
  • Organising and attending key meetings (including Annual General Meetings)
  • Taking and distributing minutes
  • Dealing with all correspondence
  • Attending to affiliations
  • Ensuring insurance is up to date and relevant
  • Maintaining up to date records and reference files
  • Arranging handover or succession planning for the position

Youth Leader

  • Representing youth members in the committee
  • Communicating the way the club works to youth members
  • Encourage youth member involvement in all sections.
  • Encourage youth member involvement in special events: Come & Try Its, River Festival.
  • Arranging handover or succession planning for the position

Youth Members are defined as those members, (male or female) who are under 18 years at the beginning of the Club year.
