Tier 4 lockdown – club boathouse closure

Following the news that Bedford will move into Tier 4 and given the anticipated associated restrictions, the committee has resolved that the club will need to close again.

As such from Sun 20th Dec 00:01: There will be no access to the boathouse to use or to borrow club kit.

There will be no access to the boathouse to use personal boats.

Anyone storing personal boats at the club should arrange to remove them from the boathouse if they wish to use them whilst access to the boathouse is restricted.

The committee will continue to keep matters under review with the aim of easing or increasing restrictions as circumstances require.

VKC waterways licenses and insurance only cover organised club activity, so this means that members who wish to paddle independently need to arrange their own licences and insurance. VKC members who are personal members of British Canoeing will have their own associated personal insurance and river licence.

We strongly advise that paddlers restrict their paddlesport activities to environments which are well within their capabilities, alert friends and family to their activity and predicted return times and ensure they have the means to call for help, handy at all times.

The committee will consider the loan of boats for local use to experienced members who have the facilities to store them safely away from the club.
